08.05.26 - Minibeasts
This week our story as been 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children have enjoyed acting out the story in sequence in the garden using words and phrases from the book.
The children practised their fine motor skills by hunting for worms (plastic ones!) in soil using tweezers and putting them into wheelbarrows, they had to concentrate very hard not to drop them!
The children have looked at the artwork of Eric Carle and have produced some wonderful collages of minibeasts. They thought carefully about the colour, shape and size of the paper they used.
The children have written some amazing 'What am I?' poems. They thought about what words they could use to describe the minibeasts and then wrote sentences and remembered to use finger spaces and full stops.
In the making area the children have independently made minibeast masks, they thought carefully about how they would attach the mask to fit their head and helped their friends to measure.
29.04.26 - Lifeguard Visit
Codden and Taw classes enjoyed an interesting visit from the Lifeguards. They told us how to stay safe when we visit the beach. The children learnt to stay safe in the sun they should wear a hat, sun cream and drink lots of water. The lifeguards told us about the flags that they use to help us know when it is safe to swim in the sea, red = danger, do not swim, red and yellow mean it is safe to swim or bodyboard, black and white = only for surfers. They also showed us what to do if we get into difficulty in the sea and how to wave our arm and show that we need help. We hope that everyone remembers what they taught us and stays safe at the beach this summer.
Torrington Dental Practice - 23.04.26
Codden Class enjoyed fantastic visit from Torrington Dental Practice. The learnt how to brush their teeth properly and what foods contained more or less sugar. The children asked some wonderful questions and listened beautifully, well done Codden Class!
Minibeast Hunt - 23.04.26
This week the children have started learning about Minibeasts. They thought carefully about where they thought the minibeasts might live, under, on or above the ground and then went and searched for them in the school forest school area. They were very surprised to find them living under logs, stones, on nettles, in the compost area and in the grass and made careful observations of what they looked like and what they were doing.
