Bishops Tawton Primary School is a thriving village school situated two miles from the busy market town of Barnstaple. The school is set in the middle of the village with views across the river valley. The original building dates back to 1860. Our grounds are extensive and include a large playing field, hard court, trim trail, nature area, forest school and orchard. We are part of a friendly community and our school aspires to a tradition of excellence.
Our school is rated consistently in the top 20% of all schools over three years for progress and our pupil's attainment is consistently well above national average by the time they leave: school league tables
Although our data is very impressive there is a lot more to school life than this. Our children are proud of their school and of their achievements. They take pride in helping each other and have the benefit of building friendships across all age groups. The children consistently demonstrate exemplary behaviour when taking part in the many activities and sporting events that they access, their sportsmanship is second to none!
The school runs a small and friendly pre-school on site. Our transition process is extensive; we succeed in making the journey to 'big school' exciting for both children and parents!
Our uncompromising aim is to offer your child an inspiring curriculum that is practical and rich; underpinned with the development of skills and knowledge in literacy, numeracy and ICT. Our curriculum continues to grow and adapt to meet the needs of learners in an ever changing world. We encourage outdoor learning. Many of our themes are whole school and result in an exciting shared outcome.
Whatever their starting point we have high expectations for your child's learning outcomes, development of their skills for learning and their individual spiritual, social, moral and physical health and wellbeing.
As a team we take responsibility to develop as professionals, we work in partnership with parents to share and support the learning journey of your child.
We look forward to welcoming you into our school community.
