• Found out some information about frogs and have written our own class information book.
• Combined materials to make our own frog/pond pictures using paints, pastels, and papers, we talked about what we had created and why we used particular materials and techniques.
• Continued to learn about teen numbers and have represented them using bead strings, tens frames and part, part whole.
• Thought about what mini beasts live in our school environment.  We went on a mini beast hunt around school and looked for mini beasts in the air, on the ground and under the ground.

• We have spent time observing tadpoles and talking about what ‘We know, we think, and we wonder’ about them.  We can’t wait to watch them change into frogs.
• We have practised our cutting skills and have made our own frogs out of paper.
• Learnt about the life cycle of a frog and made a life cycle using playdough.
• Started to learn about teen numbers using numicon and part, part whole.

This week we have had great fun learning about and Celebrating the King’s Coronation.  Our learning has been based on the book ‘If I were King by Chelsea O’Byrne.  During the week we have…

• Read the story ‘If I were King’ and imagined what we would do if we were King or Queen for a day.  We wrote a sentence using all of the sounds that we have learnt so far and tried to remember to leave spaces between each word.
• We have created our own coronation crowns and enjoyed decorating them.  We measured them carefully so that they fit around our heads.
• We followed instructions to make coronation peppermint cream sweets.
• Painted Union Jack flags and bunting.
• Learn to sing the National Anthem.
• Had a wonderful time at our EYFS Coronation Cake Picnic, thank you so much to everyone for baking such amazingly decorated coronation cakes and biscuits they were all so tasty!

• Found out about why Kings and Queens wear crowns and what they look like.  We made our own commemorative crown to celebrate the coronation out of clay.
• Imagined what it might be like to be King.  We wrote a sentence about what we would do.
• In maths we have learnt how to directly compare the weight of objects and learnt to use balancing scales. We used words such as heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter, lightest, the same, equals, balanced.
• In PE we practised throwing and catching beanbags, we tried to challenge ourselves to catch them as many times as we could without dropping them.

During the week we have…

• Talked about how our families celebrated Easter and wrote a sentence about what we did during the Easter holidays.
• Looked at lots of illustrations of dragons and have painted our own imaginary dragons using pastels and paint.
• Learnt and remembered the story of George and the Dragon by acting it out using small world toys and sequencing pictures to retell the story in sequence.
• In maths we have explored capacity, we used the vocabulary full, half full, half empty, empty, more, less, most, least to compare different amounts.
