This week we have continued our learning about Christmas!

This week we have…

  • Recapped all of the sounds that we have learnt this half term and have practised reading and writing cvc words using these.
  • Investigated what happened when we put folded paper stars in water.  We tested card, paper, tissue paper, sugar paper and paper towels and noticed what happened to each one.
  • Learnt about Christingle and what it represents to Christians and had a go at making our own.
  • Learnt about squares and rectangles and how they
  • Performed amazingly in the Church in the Nativity, thank you so much to everyone for coming to watch and support the children.  Please check the class blog as there are lots and lots of lovely photographs of the performance on there!
  • Had great fun shopping for friends/family in the PTFA Christmas Shop in family groups.

His week we have continued our learning about the Nativity story,

This week we have…

  • Recapped all of the sounds that we have learnt this half term and have practised reading and writing cvc words using these.
  • Learnt to retell and sequence the Christmas Nativity story.
  • Created beautiful Christmas Cards of Christmas Trees by printing fern leaves.
  • Written a message in our Christmas Cards using the letters and sounds that we have learnt.
  • Practised our Nativity performance.
  • Listened to an interesting talk by Sergeant Clark about his job as a Police Officer.

His week our learning has been based around the Nativity story,

This week we have…

  • Recapped all of the sounds that we have learnt this half term and have practised reading and writing cvc words using these.
  • Written captions using cvc words, sounding our carefully and leaving a space between each word.
  • Created beautiful pen and ink drawings of Angels and coloured them using pastels and brusho.
  • Found the number one more and one less than numbers 0-5 using a variety of images such as numicon, tens frames, fingers, dice, bead strings and objects.
  • Practised our Nativity performance.

This week we have…

  • Learnt the sounds f ff ss ll and have written and read CVC words using these sounds.  We practised the ‘tricky words’ (words we can’t sound out) go and no.
  • Written captions using cvc words, sounding our carefully and leaving a space between each word.
  • Made shadow puppets to retell the story of the Owl Babies and explored shadows using torches.
  • Found lots of different ways of making 5 using five frames and Numicon.
  • Started to learn lots of songs for our Nativity performance.

  • Learn to retell the story of the Owl Babies by acting it out using our story telling spoons.
  • Learnt the sounds h b l ll and have written and read CVC words using these sounds.  We learnt some more ‘tricky words’ (words we can’t sound out) go and no.
  • Explored light, dark and shadows using torches in our dark den.
  • Explored mark making using feathers and paint.
  • Learn how to roll and trap a ball in PE
  • Use junk modelling and collage materials to create owl puppets to retell the story.
  • Found lots of different ways of making 4 using the part, park, whole method.

We hope you all had a fun filled half term, we have loved hearing about all of the exciting things that you got up to!  This week we have continued our theme of Autumn and have thought about Fireworks and Bonfire Night. 

This week we have…

  • Drawn a picture and written a simple sentence about what we did at half term.
  • Learnt the sounds ck e u r and have written and read CVC words using these sounds.  We learnt our first ‘tricky words’ (words we can’t sound out) to and the.
  • Met the new village vicar Reverend Selina and enjoyed an assembly about Light.
  • Created firework pictures by printing.
  • Enjoyed creating firework dancing using ribbons and streamers.
  • Thought carefully about how to keep safe on Bonfire Night.
  • Use junk modelling and collage materials to create our own fireworks and rockets.  We thought carefully about different ways of attaching the materials so bits don’t fall off!

This week we have…

  • Been on an Autumn walk around school and have noticed how the leaves are changing. We found red, orange, yellow, green, brown and golden coloured leaves and made out own leaf crowns using them.
  • Sounded out and written cvc words using the sounds g o c k  
  • Used clay to make a class leaf mobile.
  • Explored mixing autumn colours using paint to make brown and orange.

  • In PE practised travelling around the hall in different ways (running, skipping, hopping, walking, galloping, jogging etc) and stopping when we hear the stop signal.

This week we have…

  • Listened and followed instructions to make apple cakes
  • Sounded out and written cvc words using the sounds s a t p I n
  • Had great fun buying and selling vegetables and fruit in our role play market.
  • We have learnt the sounds I n m d and have continued to practise blending and segmenting.
  • Explored printing with fruits and vegetables and observed the patterns and shapes they create.
  • Played a mystery fruit/vegetable game and used lots of words to describe the colour, shape, smell, taste, texture and size.

This week we have…

  • We visited the school orchard and picked apples and used them to make apple flapjack.
  • The children went to their first school Harvest Festival. They sang beautifully and joined in really well with the service.  Thank you to the parents who were able to help and who joined us for the service.
  • We have learnt the sounds s a t p.
  • Created rolly apple pictures by rolling apples in paint and observing the different patterns and colours that were created.
  • The children explored sorting in lots of different ways such as colour, size and shape.  They gave reasons for their choices.

· We have identified, extended and created our own patterns using shapes, peg boards, objects and painting.

· We have continued to practise sounding out cvc words using our robot voices and have been listening and identifying words that begin with the same sound.

· We have been to our first singing assembly, everyone joined in beautifully and loved learning the songs that we will be singing at our Harvest Festival.

We have enjoyed another exciting week as we have continued getting to know each other and have become more familiar with the classroom and outdoor setting. The children are responding really well to some of the new changes to their routine and are becoming so much more independent.  Our story for the week as been ‘The Colour Monster’ you may wish to watch it by following the link below.

  • We have had practised our cutting skills and made our own colour monsters.
  • We have talked about our families and who we live with.
  • We have been practising blending and segmenting cvc words suing our robot arms and voices.
  • We have been to our first family group session.  This session is held once a week, the children meet in a mixed group of children of all ages (family members are taught in the same group).  During the sessions the children will take part in a variety of activities such as discussing topical issues, exploring the learning powers, planning fund raising events and much more.

Welcome to Codden Class from Mrs Paul, Mrs Clark and Cheryl. What a great start to our school year! We have enjoyed an exciting week getting to know each other and becoming familiar with the classroom and outdoor setting. We would like to thank each of you for helping the children to come into school, they have settled so quickly and have really enjoyed their time here.

  • We have been painting and drawing pictures of ourselves.
  • We have been learning about how and why it’s important to listen and we played lots of listening games.
  • We have been on a tour of the school and met lots of staff and children.
