The topic this week is under the sea! The children have been listening to stories about different creatures that live under the sea.

This week the children have:

  • Painted and decorated a jelly fish. They used tissue paper to make the tentacles for the jelly fish.
  • Looked at different pictures of sea animals and talked about their features.
  • Used the water guns to squirt a specific sea animal.
  • Played in the role play area using our ‘Ice cream parlour’. They pretended to order and make their own ice-cream to sell to their friends.
  • Separated animals that live on land or under the sea into two groups.

We have been continuing to learn about the beach this week! 

This week the children have:

  • Shared pictures of themselves at the beach. We had a few group circle time where the children had the chance to share their pictures and talk about their experiences. 
  • Painted a lovely picture of the beach using blue/yellow paint and real sand.
  • Used flip flops to mark make on paper. They mixed lots of different colours and used the flip flops to make marks.
  • Made boats out of junk modelling materials such as cardboard, plastic, tissue paper etc.
  • Played matching games using flips flops with different patterns on them.

Our topic this week is the beach! We have been reading books about the beach and summer.

This week the children have:

  • Shared pictures of themselves at the beach. We had a group circle time where the children had the chance to share their pictures and talk about their experiences. 
  • Painted a fish using bright colours and cut it out.
  • Painted a picture using fish and dolphin shaped sponges. 
  • Painted a variety of shells.
  • Compared the size of shells and put them in size order.
  • Organised shells into the buckets with the matching numeral on them.
  • Played in our beach role play area which included buckets, spades, wetsuits, towels, flip flops etc.
  • Listened to a talk all about water safety when going to the beach.

This week the children have still been learning about the Jubilee and the Queen. We spoke about how the children celebrated the jubilee with their families.  

This week the children have:

  • Painted flags using pom poms and blue/red paint
  • Baked scones which they had for their snack.
  • Looked at portraits of the queen and drawn their own self portrait
  • Watched playdough disco – jubilee edition
  • Used different materials to make a castle

This week the children have been learning about the royal family and the queen! The children read the story ‘Katie in London’ and talked about different London landmarks.

This week the children have:

 

  • Cut out and decorated their own bunting to display in the Pre-school
  • Cut out and stuck together paper chains to display in the Pre-school
  • Made their own crown using red, white and blue colours and glittery gems
  • Looked at different coins and matched them to the correct numicon
  • Made and cut out flags
  • Build ‘Buckingham palace’ or a ‘castle’ using the construction toys.
  • Baked and decorated their own cupcake to eat at our pre-school tea party.

This week the children have:

  • Made a spider out of playdough using pipe cleaners, lolly pop sticks and googly eyes etc.
  • Painted a spider. They worked really hard to copy the picture of a spider. The children picked which colours they wanted to use and added some glitter.
  • Made a spider using an egg box and pipe cleaners.
  • Made a spider biscuit. They decorated a biscuit using icing, chocolate buttons and laces for legs.

Minibeast

This week we have had more new starters join pre-school. We have continued learning all about minibeasts!  We have been reading the story “Aaaarrgghh spider”.

This week the children have:

  • Painted a butterfly. They painted one side of the butterfly and printed it onto the other side.
  • Acted out incy wincy spider in the water tray. They used guttering, pretend spiders and watering cans to act out the nursery rhyme.
  • Dug for pretend worms in the soil using spades and tweezers.
  • Rescued pretend minibeasts from a spider’s webs. They used a timer to see how quick they could rescue the minibeasts.
  • Practised writing their name if they are going to school in September.

This week we have had more new starters join pre-school. We have continued learning all about mini beasts!  We have been reading the story “Mad about minibeasts”.

This week the children have:

  • Made a butterfly and decorated it using tissue paper. The children have been working on using scissors independently.
  • Explored the trim trail/forest school area to look for bugs. They used a checklist to tick off which bugs they found.
  • Finished off decorating their minibeasts houses.
  • Made different minibeasts using the playdough. They used pipe cleaners and lolly pop sticks to make the arms and legs.

This week we have had a lot of new starters join pre-school. We have been learning all about mini beasts!  We have been reading the story “Superworm”.

This week the children have:

  • Been on a minibeast hunt in the garden and in our new bug village!
  • Started making a minibeast house to take home
  • Looked at different pictures of minibeasts and talked about their features
  • Talked about different habitats and where minibeasts live.
