Saunton Summer Term 2022


In maths this week we have been exploring multiplication of larger numbers using a formal written method. 

We have been continuing to research and write about rainforest life and presenting our findings for our topic books. 


This week the children have finished and edited and improved their story writing. 

In Maths we have been exploring equivalent fractions. 

The children focused on serving in tennis and finished their computing projects with Miss Burnell.


This week the children have written a story based upon our class text- Gregory Cool.  In Maths we have been investigating improper fractions and converting into wholes and parts.  We have been revisiting road safety and in topic learnt about and tasted Mayan hot chocolate.  

Well done to all the children who brought in their rainforest projects this week.  We have enjoyed sharing them together.


Our trip to Rosemoor Gardens has been the highlight of the week. 

The education staff commented on how well behaved and knowledgeable the children were. I was extremely proud of them. 

In English we have been exploring setting description and have continued to work on fractions in maths.  Our PSHE has been focusing on friendship, resolving issues and the qualities of a good friend.


This week we have been exploring fractions and division into equal parts. 

In English we have read a new adventure story – Gregory Cool. 

In our clay workshop we designed and created wonderful commemorative plates.


This week we have been exploring mental strategies for subtraction. 

In English, we have been planning and writing a formal letter to the Devon Wildlife Trust supporting the possible introduction of beavers to our local environment. 

We have researched Maya life as a commoner.


This week we have been learning about the reintroduction of beavers to North Devon.  In maths we have worked on solving equivalent addition calculations.  We have investigated germination of seeds and how water transports through a stem.


The children have worked hard this week and are enjoying our new topic on South America.  We have started to explore a Brazilian artist- Beatriz Milhazes and what inspires her art.  In English we are reading The Rainforest Rough Guide.  We are revisiting methods for addition and subtraction in maths.


This week we have been learning about the continents and oceans of the world in geography.    

In English we have explored how the author of our core text uses different writing styles to communicate factual information. 

In maths, we have continued to explore addition.
