Home Learning - Week 22

This week we have continued to think about Easter

  • We had great fun finding out about the Easter traditional of Egg Rolling.  The children designed and made their own characters to race and had great fun rolling them down the slope in the garden!
  • Learnt to use positional language to describe where the Easter eggs were hiding, such as next to, beside, on top of, behind, underneath and under.
  • Learnt how to cut and fold paper to make an Easter Bunny Basket.
  • Listened carefully to instructions when making chocolate Easter Nests.
  • Continued to extend CVC words which include two syllable words such as lunch box, windmill treetop, starlight.

This week we have been thinking about Easter

  • We have talked about how we celebrate Easter in our homes and found out about how other people celebrate.
  • Learnt the days of the week in order using this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXMofxtDPUQ
  • Learnt about how long a minute and explored how many times we can do every day activities in one minute such as writing our name, running around the playground, building a tower etc.
  • Practised our cutting skills by making our own bunny Easter cards.
  • Thought about all of the things we have learnt about Spring and wrote a spring poem.
  • Continued to extend CVC words which include two syllable words such as lunch box, windmill treetop, starlight.

This week we have continued to explore the story of Jack and the Beanstalk

  • We have planted Giant Cress Heads and decorated the pots to look like a Giant.
  • Explored measuring length and used words such as short, shorter, shortest, tall, taller, tallest to compare and measure height.
  • Designed and made a bean packet to hold magic beans so the beans won’t fall out!  Designed the front of the seed packet on the computer using the drawing tools.
  • Worked together to paint a beautiful canvas based on the work of Yvonne Comber.  Have a look on the school blog to see the photos!
  • Continued to extend CVC words to CVCC words such as ten - tent

This week we have explored the story of Jack and the Beanstalk

  • We have learnt and remembered the story by retelling it using small world play.
  • Thought of lots of adjectives to describe the Giant and written a WANTED poster to try and catch him.
  • Designed and made a seed packet to hold a magic bean without the bean falling out!
  • Explored pairs of numbers that make 10.  How many magic beans will be left if Jack’s mother throws some out of the window?
  • Extended CVC words to CVCC words such as ten - tent

This week we have continued to learn about Spring Flowers.

  • We have planted more vegetable seeds in the lower EYFS garden such as courgettes, onions, and radish.
  • Made our own flowers out of paper, card, buttons, and cake cases for our role play garden centre.
  • Labelled the parts of a daffodil plant using the sounds that we have learnt.
  • Started writing a seed diary to record the growth of our vegetable seeds.  We can’t wait to watch them grow.
  • Found lots of different ways of representing the numbers 9 and 10 using our fingers, numicon, counters, tens frames, objects and numerals.
  • We have now learnt all of the sounds/digraphs and will be focussing on extending these to include cvcc amd ccvc words with extra consonants.

This week we have been learning about Spring Flowers.

  • We have started to plant vegetable seeds to plant in the lower EYFS garden.
  • Made observational drawings of daffodils using pastels thinking carefully about the colour, shapes and size of each part of the plant.
  • Made daffodil flowers out of paper and thought about how we can attach each part together using glue and masking tape.
  • We have practised the trigraphs ear, air, ure and have practised reading and writing words using these sounds.
  • Enjoyed celebrating world book day/week with a book swap, buddy reading and a visit from the librarian.
  • Found out about why Christians celebrate Shrove Tuesday and how they celebrate.

This week we have continued learning about Space…
  • We have imagined we are Little Bear in Space and have written a letter home to his mummy telling her all about his adventures.
  • Used 2D shapes to create pictures, we have named the shapes and talked about why we used the shapes in our pictures.
  • Followed instructions to make our own jam sandwiches.
  • We have learnt the trigraphs ear, air, ure, er and have practised reading and writing words using these sounds.
  • Found out about how to keep safe online by listening to Smartie the Penguin

This week we have enjoyed learning about Space

  • We have read the story of Whatever Next.  We have acted out the story and remembered it in sequence.  
  • We have written a list of everything that we think we would need to take on a space adventure, sounding out carefully and using the sounds that we have learnt.   
  • We have investigated how to make rockets and explored how we can get them to travel faster and further.
  • Compared objects to find out which was the longest and shortest and explored measuring using cubes.
  • We have recapped the sounds or, ur, oi, ow and have practised reading and writing words using these sounds.
  • Enjoyed taking part in lots of activities for mental health week.  We have learnt about why it is important to look after our mental health and ways we can do this.

This week we have enjoyed learning about the Chinese/Lunar Year.
  • We have read the story of the Great Race and written a list of all of the animals that took pat.
  • We sounded out using the sounds that we have learnt.

  • We have tasted lots of different Chinese food and talked about which ones we liked and disliked and why. 
  • Followed instructions to make a folded dragon puppet.
  • We have learnt the sounds or, oi, ur and ow and have practised reading and writing words using these sounds.

This week we have had great fun acting out and learning the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’.

  • We have listened to the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and have drawn a story road to help us sequence the story.  You could watch Mr Tumble read the story here.
  • We thought carefully about how the characters may be feeling and wrote speech bubbles.
  • Explored lots of different ways of representing the numbers 6, 7, 8
  • Followed instructions to make Gingerbread Men and decorated them.
  • Investigated what would happen if the Gingerbread Man fell into different liquids such as: milk, coke oil and water.
  • We have recapped the digraphs that we have learnt so far this term and have practised writing cvc words using these sounds.

This week we have had great fun acting out and learning the story ‘Goldilocks’.  

  • We have listened to the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.  You can watch the story being read here.  
  • Wrote a sorry card from Goldilocks to the Three Bears.  We sounded out carefully and tried to remember to leave spaces between each of the words.
  • Explored lots of different ways of making 5 using objects, counters and Numicon.
  • Followed instructions to make porridge and added our own extra flavours such as chocolate, fruit, honey etc.
  • Investigated lots of different ways of making a new chair for baby bear using junk materials.
  • We learnt the digraphs oo, oo, ar, practised writing cvc words using these sounds.

This week we have had great fun acting out and learning the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.

  • We have listened to the story of ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’
  • Created some wonderful 3D story maps and sounded out words to label the places in the story using the sounds that we have learnt so far.
  • Use the words more and fewer to compare amounts of objects, dots and numerals.
  • We went on a sensory walk and hunted for lots of different textured natural objects.
  • We have made observational drawings of our own teddy bears using lots of different mediums such as sketching pencils, pens, paints and collage.
  • We learnt the digraphs ai, ee, igh,and oa and practised writing cvc words using these sounds.

  •  We have thought about how we are feeling about being back at school and have created our own weather monster paintings to represent this.
  • Thought about what makes a good friend and how we can be a good friend to others.
  • We have used pennies to buy things from our shop and worked out how much money we would have left over.
  • We learnt the digraphs ch, sh, th, ng and practised writing cvc words using these sounds.
