What a busy first half term we’ve had in Codden class! The children have enjoyed making apple cake (using apples picked from school) and learning about harvest, making and tasting fruit salad and voting for our favourite fruit! We are amazed at the progress the children have made in reading and writing already. The class has enjoyed number and letter hunts and lots of working together to play games and solve problems. We’ve read lots of stories about monsters, dinosaurs and mystery creatures. We’re looking forward to lots more monster fun next half term...
After October half term, we read lots of rhyming stories and poems. We found rhyming pairs and some of us wrote a list of rhyming words! Everyone designed their own monster sock puppet and used their design to choose loose parts to decorate a sock. We were very resilient on our walk up Codden Hill - we took our monster lanterns and torches as it was very dark! It was great to see so many of Codden and Tarka class take part in this. We celebrated firework night and experimented with different materials to make firework art. We also learnt about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We thought about similarities and differences between this and bonfire night and made our own diva lamps, designed Mehndi patterns and looked at colourful Rangoli patterns!
For the last few weeks, we have been getting into the Christmas spirit... we've enjoyed lots of Christmas stories, had a post office role-play in class and written Christmas cards. The children worked so hard on The Noisy Nativity performance and are now ready for a good rest over Christmas. Well done Codden Class!
